Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – Joins for the 2014 season
Few overseas signings have generated as much excitement as the announcement that Peter Siddle will be joining Nottinghamshire for the duration of the 2014 season. The Australian fast bowler, who played in all five winning Ashes Test matches against England last winter, is one of the truly outstanding talents in world cricket.
After just 12 first class matches he was selected for a full tour of India in 2008 and forced his way into the side for a Test debut at Mohali.
Siddle’s elevation amongst the greats was confirmed in 2010 when, on his 25th birthday, he took an Ashes hat-trick against England at Brisbane, an innings that saw him emerge with career-best figures of 6-54.
A handy batsman – he is the only number nine to have scored two fifties in a Test match – he will bring an all-round game to Trent Bridge that is guaranteed to delight Notts supporters and strengthen their championship claims ten-fold.
After injury ruled out his one previous attempt to play domestically in England, for Essex in 2012, Siddle is contracted to play a full season for the Trent Bridge outfit, participating in all of the four-day and 50-over matches.
His only previous visit to Nottingham was for the eventful First Test of last summer’s Ashes series when he took eight wickets in the match, including 5-50 in the first innings.
In traditionally bowler-friendly conditions Notts members will be hoping for plenty of similar returns from their new acquisition.
