Swann's up but Read's down
Notts 341 (Bicknell 84, Hussey 77, Gallian 62)
Warwickshire 133 (Swann 6-57)
Notts won by 10 wickets
Read?s ankle injury took the gloss off an emphatic victory over the reigning county champions, and Newell is hoping the sprain responds to treatment.
He said: ?We definitely want Read to be fit to take on Surrey but his chances are slim.
?His ankle is pretty swollen and it will take a lot of intensive treatment and a hell of a recovery for it to happen.?
The win puts us top of Division One ahead of our clash with the title contenders and Newell was delighted with the performance.
He added: ?You have to be happy about beating the county champions away from home in just over two days but there are always areas we can improve.
?I was disappointed to miss out on another batting point by nine runs, because every point could prove crucial at the end of the season.
?But that?s nitpicking really and it was good to see Graeme Swann produce a matchwinning performance on the first pitch this season that?s been suited to him.?
Swann?s 6-57 proved way too good for the hosts, who had been on the back foot from the second session of the game, when we whipped out their last eight wickets for 84 runs.
Half-centuries from Darren Bicknell, David Hussey and Jason Gallian produced a solid total and Swann turned the screw in the afternoon session on day two.
And Bicknell hit the winning four in the first over of the third day to leave us sitting pretty in the table.
