Sidebottom takes Player of the Year

The 27-year-old left-armer collected the award from Partner at PKF Neil Gray after picking up 50 first-class wickets over the summer and playing a crucial role in helping us lift the Championship trophy.

He?s already looking forward to the challenge of retaining the title and said: ?I?m absolutely delighted to have won the Championship and I?m flattered to pick up Player of the Year as well.

?Winning the title this time has been more special than it was with Yorkshire in 2001. The team spirit in the dressing room here is brilliant and the atmosphere around the club encourages success.

?Those kind of things make me think we can do it again and we?re all looking forward to the challenges next year.

?I?ve had good seasons in the past with Yorkshire but either injuries have hit me at the wrong time or I?ve been rotated out of the side.

?I knew what I could do and have enjoyed having the opportunity to show that this year. I?ve got more responsibility here with Notts as Stephen Fleming and Jason Gallian have been prepared to throw the ball to me to make a breakthrough.

?I?ve never bowled so many overs in a season before and the coaching staff and physio Craig Smith have helped me stay fit, so I owe them some thanks.?

Other winners on the night included Will Smith, who was named Second XI Player of the Year after scoring more than 1,000 runs in the Championship and Trophy.

Pete Wilshaw picked up the award as our Academy?s Most Improved Player following a successful summer with the bat for Staffordshire in Minor Counties cricket and some useful contributions for the Second XI. He has now begun his first year with Oxford UCCE.

The Yorkshire Bank Moment of the Season was Greg Smith?s winning boundary in our nail-biting one-wicket victory over Gloucestershire Gladiators in the floodlit game at Trent Bridge.
