Heavy rain over the weekend has led to this week’s Second XI Championship match with Lancashire at Caythorpe CC been abandoned without a ball bowled. The game was due to start today but after an inspection it was decided no play would be possible due to saturation of the pitch.Said Second XI coach Wayne Noon: “The rain at the weekend left the whole pitch like a bog. Water had also got under the covers and left the wicket very muddy as well.“There was no chance of getting any cricket in so to be fair to Lancashire we’ve told them not to make the trip."We’ve looked at re-arranging the game for later in the season but there doesn’t seem to be a free week where both teams are able to play.“It’s unfortunate but these things happen and you can only blame the weather.”
