The 27-year-old says our 12-day break from one-day cricket has given us time to rethink tactics and thinks we can claim our first League win of the season on Bank Holiday Monday.

He said: ?We?ve been very disappointed with our start to the season and are desperate to make a point against Essex.

?There?s going to be a few changes to strategy and I think those changes can get us that first win against Essex. We?ve been doing in the field and with the ball and with some improvement to our batting we will be in business.?

Although Clough?s lower order batting partnerships with Samit Patel have been one of the successes of the season, the all-rounder says he would prefer to let the specialist batsmen do the work.

He added: ?I enjoy batting and feel in good form but I would be happier to go in with a few balls left in the innings rather than 15 overs or more.

?My job is to try and score at more than a run a ball and finish the innings well and since my ankle operation in the winter I?ve felt fit and able to play to my full ability.

?I got through last season with the injury thanks to pain-killing injections but the surgery seems to have done the trick.

?Hopefully I?ll be contributing to a win on Monday. Essex are a good side with some good young players and plenty of experienced professionals but we don?t fear anyone.?

Injury news:

But Greg Smith has had no reaction to his hamstring strain at Bristol and is included in the squad.
