Former Nottinghamshire off-spinner John Cook has died at the age of 61.

Cook played in two first-class matches for Notts in 1974 and 1975, and 10 one-day games in 1974.

The right-arm batsman, who was born in Retford in 1946, served as an officer with Nottinghamshire Police and played club cricket for Retford as well as captaining Farnsfield.

His performances at county level included a match-winning spell of 4-19 against Surrey at Trent Bridge in the John Player League.
