Mick Newell expects David Hussey to 'bring a lot of enthusiasm' as our stand-in captain for Stephen Fleming.

The 29-year-old Aussie batsman has been promoted to skipper following his successful spell in charge of Victoria this winter.

They have retained the domestic Twenty20 competition, narrowly lost in the final of the One-day trophy and are still in the running for the Pura Cup, with Hussey in sparkling form with the bat.

Newell said: "I expect Hussey to bring a lot of enthusiasm to the job over the short period of time he's in charge.

"He's got good tactical awareness and has been getting some experience of captaincy with Victoria this winter. He also seems to have batted better during that period, so I'm hopeful we'll see similar results at Trent Bridge."

Hussey, 29, will act as captain for four matches in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship and five Friends Provident Trophy games.

Fleming is expected to return for the Championship match against Essex at Trent Bridge, starting on May 23.
