Notts looking for big Twenty20 finish

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell claims his side can take a significant step towards the quarter-finals of the Twenty20 Cup if they beat Yorkshire Phoenix.

The Outlaws play their final home game in the competition on Friday having picked up three wins out of four so far, plus a rained-off fixture against Leicestershire.

They go into the match as the leaders of the North Group, and Newell has urged his troops to maintain that position through their remaining games.

He said: “We want to win the group and beating Yorkshire would help us take a big stride towards earning a home tie in the quarter-finals.

“We all remember what it was like to play in front of 12,000 supporters against Northants last year and it’s something the players are keen to see happen again.

“But the most important thing is to keep on picking up victories to maintain momentum and keep confidence high.”

Notts have produced three rousing performances with the bat so far, culminating in their third-highest score in the competition with 203-8 against Derbyshire.

But Newell believes there’s still more to come and added: “The first 15 overs of our batting was pretty exceptional but we could have done more at the death.

“If you make a big score and then take early wickets, you set the opposition back completely. That’s the plan we’ll be trying to follow against Yorkshire as well.”

Advanced ticket sales have now stopped for this game, tickets will still be available friday morning from Trent Bridge, priced at £14 for Adults, £7 for Juniors (under 16s), and £35 for a Family ticket (2 Adults + 2 Juniors).

Entertainment at Trent Bridge on the night includes a surf simulator, crèche, face painter, bouncy castle, chocolate fountain and a Pimms tent.
