Footitt steps up with five wickets
General News | 23rd May 2007
Mick Newell was full of praise for fast bowler Mark Footitt after the left-arm seamer recorded Championship-best bowling figures in his first appearance of the season.
The 21-year-old, playing in only his fourth Championship match of his career, took 5-59 against Essex after being brought into the Notts side following Ryan Sidebottom's call-up by England.
Said Director of Cricket Newell: "With AJ Harris out injured, Mark was next in line for selection. That was something we always intended to happen and the reason we didn't go looking for another seamer in the winter, as we wanted to give Mark more first-team opportunities.
"He has always been patient and waited for his chance, and every time he's played he has taken wickets. I'm very pleased with what he offered us."
