Opening batsman Scott Newman has agreed to extend his loan deal until the end of the season.

Newman initially joined Nottinghamshire from Surrey on a one month loan deal but will now feature in the club’s remaining LV County Championship fixtures.

“The deal is essentially an extended trial for Scott and we’ll monitor his performances between now and the end of the season,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“I think that a number of counties will be interested in securing his services next season but we were keen to take the opportunity to have a closer look.”

Newman scored 87 in the first innings of his Notts debut against Somerset in July and is in the team to face Hampshire at Trent Bridge this week.
