Notts Academy returned to winning ways in the Bassetlaw League on Saturday against Caythorpe second team, with Adam Shepherd and Jake Ball starring in an undefeated 87 run stand for the seventh wicket.

Replying to Caythorpe's score of 193-9, the Academy were struggling on 109-6 before the two came together and wrestled the initiative from the visitors.

Shepherd ended on 57 not out with seven fours and a six, reaching his 50 in 51 balls. Jake Ball hit 6 fours and a six from 41 balls.

Earlier, the Academy bowling failed to impress in the first half of the visitors innings. After 25 overs they were 119-2 and threatening a large total. However Akhil Patel with 4-36 from 15 overs helped peg Caythorpe back and Dominic Harvey took 2-28.
