Nottinghamahire seamer Ryan Sidebottom will hope to make his mark with the ball after falling for a duck in England’s calamitous first innings at The Wanderers.

Sidebottom hadn’t featured in the test side since England’s draw with West Indies in Bridgetown in March but was handed a recall in place of Graham Onions.

A draw in the fourth and final Test against South Africa would hand England a series victory but South Africa made an assured start, dismissing Andrew Strauss with the first ball of the match.

Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen made single figure contributions before Paul Collingwood (47) and Ian Bell (35) showed a bit of resistance.

Graeme Swann’s run-a-ball 27 helped to steer England to 180 all out at tea on day one.
