Nottinghamshire all-rounder Graeme Swann went unsold in the Indian Premier League auction with Eoin Morgan the only England player to be purchased.

Morgan will join Kevin Pietersen at Bangalore Royal Challengers after attracting a winning bid of $220,000 but Swann’s international commitments (he would have missed three weeks of the tournament) made him an unattractive option.

“Availability is a serious issue for all the teams,” said IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.

“When players are available 100 percent of the time the teams bear that in mind and it is a major part of their strategy.”

Swann’s absence from the Indian Premier League could provide a small window for him to represent Nottinghamshire at the beginning of the domestic season. England’s second Test against Bangladesh concludes on Tuesday 16 March with the ICC World Twenty20 beginning in the West Indies on Friday 30 April.

Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship campaign begins with a home fixture against Kent on Thursday 15 April.
