Neil Edwards is expected to replace Hashim Amla in the Notts Outlaws opening pair when Hampshire Royals visit Trent Bridge on Sunday (starts 1.45pm).

Matthew Wood is the alternative understudy and is the other option available to Mick Newell and Chris Read.

Alex Hales retains his place and will also be included in the team to face Hampshire in the LV= County Championship from Monday.

“Alex has been in good form in 40-over cricket and his double hundred in the second eleven reinforced his standing as the obvious batsman to come into the side,” said Newell.

“I’ll tell the players to take the confidence they have garnered in four day cricket into Sunday’s match because that is our strongest suit and there’s no reason why the form can’t be transferred to this format.

“We always score at a fair rate in our championship fixtures and Ali Brown, Chris Read and Paul Franks have enjoyed fantastic knocks this week and can help us come out on top if they bat with their heads as well as their bats.”

Hampshire are bottom of Group C in the Clydesdale Bank 40 having lost their first three fixtures. Pace-setters Warwickshire beat them with four overs to spare on Friday.
