Newell To Make Late
Call On Brown & Adams
Match Preview | 3rd May 2010
Minor injuries to Andre Adams and Ali Brown have delayed Nottinghamshire’s team selection for Tuesday’s LV= County Championship match against Hampshire.
Adams tweaked his knee in Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 victory whilst Brown suffered a cut finger. Mick Newell’s preference is to include both players with Darren Pattinson replacing Stuart Broad in an eleven otherwise unchanged from the win over Somerset.
Additional players involved in Sunday’s win have delayed their return home to provide cover but both players will be assessed before a final selection is confirmed.
“We’ve asked extra players to stay with us but neither of them are beyond consideration,” said Newell.
“We’ll go into the game with confidence and it’s important that we make an imposing start to the match because Hampshire are suffering a poor run and could lose confidence if they find themselves chasing the game.
“We’ve had a brief look at the wicket but we’re undecided as to our plan if we win the toss.”
Steven Mullaney and Alex Hales could be asked to step in having caught the eye in CB40 cricket.
Mullaney’s three-wicket haul on Sunday and some assertive batting in the Second Eleven have helped his cause whilst Hales is keen to step up having featured in six LV= County Championship matches last season.
“Alex struck the ball well on Sunday and contributed to a pleasing result considering Hampshire’s strengths in limited overs cricket,” said Newell.
“We weren’t sure that 180 was going to be enough but the bowling effort allowed us to frustrate Hampshire and the win was comfortable in the end.”
Hampshire have lost five consecutive matches in all competitions including all three of their LV= County Championship matches. The run constitutes their worst start to a season since 1955
