Match Report | 1st September 2010
Essex (304-7) beat Nottinghamshire (260) by 44 runs
Notts failed to reach the final of the Second Eleven Trophy at Trent Bridge being defeated by a more experienced Essex side.
Notts had to field a weakened bowling attack who bowled well up to the 40th over restricting Essex to 190-4, however a forceful knock from Mervyn Westfield who scored 58 from just 26 balls took the game from the home side who conceded 114 from the last 10 overs.
Michael Comber had proved to be the mainstay of the Essex batting with 80 from 101 balls supported by Godleman (45), Grant Flower (37) and West (33).
Richard Stroh was the pick of the home attack taking 3-51. Graeme White bowled his ten overs tidily taking 1-36.
Notts in reply were 96-4 from 16 overs having lost Patel & Edwards for 20 apiece , Matthew Wood scored 39 and Bilal Shafayat 3.
Scott Elstone and Richard Stroh then added 114 for the 5th wicket & at one stage looked to be giving Notts a chance of winning, however Elstone nicked one to the keeper when on 71 and Stroh was out for 58 with the score on 246 in the 46th over .
Fourteen balls later the game was over & it will be Essex to play Lancashire in the final.
