Pattinson & Gurney Cut
Surrey Down To Size

Match Report | 15th July 2012

Darren Pattinson took three early wickets as Notts Outlaws enjoyed a resounding victory over Surrey at Guildford.

The hosts had been unbeaten in the competition this season but a devastating opening effort from the Notts bowlers saw Surrey reduced to 8/5 in the fourth over.

Pattinson’s haul of 3-27 was eclipsed by Harry Gurney who finished with 4-22 to suppress a middle order fightback.

Surrey posted 123 all out after Spriegel (39), Ansari (16), Batty (24) and Lewis (16) staged a brief revival but Notts were always in complete control.

James Taylor hit the winning single in the 31st over and top-scored with 41 batting at number three.

“Samit’s wicket in the first over gave us a good start and then two wickets in the second made it an excellent start and we were able to keep them on the back foot,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“Harry bowled well and we know that he can be very effective bowling towards the end of the innings and Darren’s form in one day cricket has been very good.

“We’re in the chasing pack but we know that we can have a say in this group by beating the teams that are above us and things are still in our own hands.”

Surrey will be concerned that Murali Kartik limped off the field shortly after claiming the wicket of Samit Patel which won’t have gone unnoticed as Nottinghamshire prepare to welcome Surrey to Trent Bridge for an LV= County Championship match from Wednesday.

Michael Lumb’s was the first of five wickets to fall, run out by Lewis, with Taylor’s partnership with Patel the most fruitful of the afternoon.

Gareth Batty saw Adam Voges caught shortly before finding a leading edge to have Wessels caught by Spriegel at extra cover as Notts slipped from 96/2 to 105/5 but the Outlaws had effectively won the game in the first five overs and will look forward to Tuesday’s floodlit match against Hampshire Royals at Trent Bridge.
