Centuries from Sam Wood and Sam Kelsall ensured the Academy continued their impressive league form and jumped to fifth in the table.

Papplewick won the toss and elected to field with Hassan Azad removed in the first over for 0 off Ross Fitzjohn.

Matt Cross and Sam Kelsall began the rebuilding work taking the score to 83 before the former was caught behind for 32 in the 15th over.

That brought the two Sam’s together and they went on to share in a 170-run stand.

Kelsall was the first to reach the milestone in the 43rd over before he was stumped two overs later for 106.

Wood pushed on and brought up his hundred in the 46th over as the Academy continued to attack the away side’s bowling.

Quick runs followed and that allowed the Academy to declare on 293-3 at the end of the 47th over, Wood ending on 113 and Tom Rowe on 24.

In reply, much like the Notts Academy, the visitors lost an early wicket, that of Tom Bowers to Luke Wood off the first ball of the innings.

Fellow opener Jack McIver made sure there were no other early wobbles and he was ably backed up by keeper Jamie Peat.

However, Sam Wood was not finished for the day as he bowled Peat for 39 and removed Mark Nelson for 12 as the score limped to 115-3.

McIver was the next to fall to Azad and from there regular wickets made fast progress even tougher and put an already unlikely run chase out of reach.

Azad ran through the tail finishing with 5-31 off nine overs and Wood picked up his third wicket, ending with 3-47 to round off a fantastic day for the all-rounder.

It was left to Luke Wood to take the last wicket, that of Callum Birkin for 0 to secure the 94-run victory for the Notts side.

This weekend, Notts Academy will face Welbeck Colliery as they look to force their way into the race for the top spots.
