Notts Outlaws kick off their Friends Life t20 competition this Friday with the visit of Leicestershire Foxes to Trent Bridge.

The Outlaws have a good record in the competition, regularly reaching the knockout stages, and Director of Cricket Mick Newell is confident that their batting strength this season is as good as it can be.

“We tend to out hit other teams in the competition in terms of volumes of sixes, because our entire top eight can clear the ropes,” said Newell.

New signing Ian Butler is set to make his Outlaws debut, while David Hussey has returned to resume his captaincy of the t20 side, affording club captain Chris Read a little extra freedom to express himself in the 20 over game.

“The transition into David Hussey’s captaincy is seamless because he’s tactically sound and keeps his emotions in check,” said Newell.

“Having him lead the team means that Chris Read can concentrate on being the world’s best wicket keeper.”

Notts Outlaws have been in fine form so far this season in the YB40 competition, taking seven wins from their eight fixtures so far, and the side will be looking to start this summer’s Friends Life t20 in similar, blistering style.

“We can take heart from our YB40 performances, where we performed very strongly with the bat and our fielding has been almost excellent,” said Newell.

“There is a lot of confidence amongst the players but we are mindful that we need to put our plans into action.”

Trent Bridge will welcome a host of military guests to the match as Nottingham prepares to stage Armed Forces Day and one supporter will win a Porsche driving experience courtesy of Matchball Sponsors Porsche Centre Nottingham.

Notts Outlaws XI to face Leicestershire Foxes: Alex Hales, Michael Lumb, Riki Wessels, James Taylor, Samit Patel, David Hussey (c), Steven Mullaney, Chris Read, Ian Butler, Ajmal Shahzad, Jake Ball
