Bad weather has postponed the final of the Second XI Trophy between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire.

The 40-over contest, which is being held at Welbeck Colliery Cricket Club reached 17.3 overs today, before sustained rain ended any chance of further play. The match will continue tomorrow morning at 11, where Lancashire will resume on 90-1, with 22.3 overs left to bowl in the first innings.

Nottinghamshire will be able to bat for their initial allocation of 40 overs should there be no further weather reductions.

The youthful Second XI side faced a very strong Lancashire top order after winning the toss and putting the visitors in to bat. Jake Ball, on his home turf, opened opposite Luke Wood and the pair ensured a tight opening spell. Ball claimed the one wicket, Stephen Moore nicking one which was excellently taken by the diving Matt Cross.

George Bacon and Brett Hutton bowled the remaining overs before the stoppage, and while Brown passed 50, the visitors closed on 96-1.

Tomorrow's play starts at 11 am, with free entry to all spectators. The event is being held at the John Fretwell Sports Complex, just north of Mansfield. For more information click here.
