Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven Championship clash against the MCC Young Cricketers ended in a draw in a rain-affected third day.

The weather wiped out all but one over of the morning session, in which Alex Hales and Will Root added one run to Notts’ overnight total.

At 2pm, the pair continued on 119-3 and progressed to 180, before Alex Hales was caught off Shahzad for a quickly-scored 43. Adam Tillcock joined Root and the pair saw Nottinghamshire through to a declaration on 203-4, Root unbeaten on 69.

The visitors were set 224 to win, but were set back by a wicket apiece for Jake Ball and Ajmal Shahzad. At 14-2 Liam Gough was joined by Sam Arthurton, the pair continuing until tea at 21-2. The rain returned in the interval, and no further play was possible. The match was declared a draw, with 11 points apiece.
