Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read has signed a one-year extension to his contract in a deal that commits him to the Club until the end of the 2016 season.

Read recaptured his form with the bat in 2014 with 877 LV= County Championship runs at an average of 43.85 allied to 54 catches behind the stumps.

“Chris was keen to extend his contract and I was happy to oblige because he’s a key player for us and still leads the way in his approach to matches and training,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He has a lot of cricket left in him and I fully expect him to sign a further extension when the time is right.”

Read, 36, has amassed 14,191 first class runs and kept wicket for Nottinghamshire in all formats since 1998.

Currently pursuing a prestigious ECB level four coaching qualification, Read has already established his own coaching academy in addition to a consulting role with the United Arab Emirates national team.

“I'd like to play on for the next two seasons as a bare minimum,” he said.

"At this stage in my career I do take it year by year. Having had a decent season last year and enjoyed playing in an exciting team, I'm keen to help us grow and win trophies over the next couple of years."
