Former Nottinghamshire batsman Ed Cowan has announced a return to the Sydney Sixers for this year’s KFC Big Bash League, where he is likely to line up alongside stalwart overseas player Michael Lumb.

Cowan represented the Sixers in the tournament’s first year, and will return to the side after Marcus North announced his retirement from domestic cricket.

The Tasmanian represented Nottinghamshire at the outset of the 2013 season at the top of the order, scoring 478 runs at an average of 43.45.

“Marcus will be a big loss to the Sixers this year, due to his batting, off spin bowling and experience,” said Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond.

“We are however, very pleased to be able to replace that experience with Ed.

“Whilst not a traditional T20 big hitter, Ed is a great worker of the ball and able to turn the strike over, crucial even in the shorter version of the game. His experience on the big stage and calm nature will be a big benefit to the club.”

The Sixers’ first fixture will pit them against the Melbourne Renegades on Friday 19 December.

Notts Outlaws will begin their NatWest T20 Blast campaign against the Birmingham Bears on Friday 15 May. With tickets in advance just £10, don't miss out by securing your seats now.
