England’s limited-overs squad will be back in action in the coming weeks with five matches against the West Indies in the Caribbean ahead of the upcoming ICC World T20 in Bangladesh.

Nottinghamshire are strongly represented in the touring party. Captain Stuart Broad and mainstays Alex Hales and Michael Lumb will be joined by Harry Gurney, whose inclusion follows a winter with England in Australia as specialist net support.

“We have improvements to make, particularly after the winter we had in Australia (they lost all three T20 matches played) but we have the players to do it,” said Broad, at an event to promote Red Bull’s ‘Rituals’ campaign.

“Cookie is the right man for the job no doubt and he has my 100 per cent backing,” - Stuart Broad.

We have strikers and guys who can take wickets. If we can get both units working together we will have a chance. There are big opportunities for people to step up in the Caribbean and stake a claim.

“We will go into the tournament as outsiders for sure but we could be worth a tenner as T20 cricket is notoriously difficult to predict.”

Broad will lead the side over fifty overs for the first time, with Alastair Cook rested following an exertive tour of Australia. While speculation has placed question marks over Cook’s captaincy, Broad insisted he was only filling in for his teammate and leader.

“Cookie is the right man for the job no doubt and he has my 100 per cent backing,” he said.

“He is good to play for and we have played some good one day cricket under him.

“Don’t forget we got to the final of the Champions Trophy only for it to be made into a T20 in which we just fell short.

Paul Collingwood will also join England for the upcoming tour to work alongside coach Ashley Giles. A figure with extensive playing experience, Collingwood has recently helped Scotland qualify for next year’s Cricket World Cup.

“It is great to see a new face in the set up and a face that has had some success over with Scotland,” said Broad.

“He is proving his credentials and Colly and Gilo will be a great fun combo.

“It is going to be a good trip and good fun but we will have to make sure we work hard and make sure we use the three weeks in the Caribbean to really push ourselves so we are in a great shape for Bangladesh.”
