India have looked to the experience of Rahul Dravid to mentor their batsmen during their tour of England.

The legendary former opening batsman will offer advice ahead of the first Investec Test between England and India at Trent Bridge on Wednesday 9 July.

BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said that the request had come from the team management itself, rather than the country’s governing body.

"It was the coach (Duncan Fletcher) who approached us on behalf of the team and said it would be good to have Rahul with his vast experience spend some time with the boys ahead of the series," he said.

"We immediately requested Rahul and he readily agreed."

Dravid made 164 Test appearances for his country, scoring in excess of 13,250 runs at an average of 52-31 in a 16-year period at the top of India’s order. These numbers propelled him to become the fourth-highest Test run scorer of all time.

This isn’t the first time Dravid’s involvement has been mooted either, with former India captain Sunil Gavaskar suggesting that he should take over as coach of the team.

"Rahul Dravid is one man who is enormously respected and was a successful captain, having won series in West Indies and England," said Gavaskar.

"When he speaks, the Indian players, some of whom are superstars, listen to him as they know how much preparation went into his game."

Rahul Dravid will be a guest at Trent Bridge’s pre-test dinner, alongside Graeme Swann. With limited seats available for this prestigious, black-tie event, click here for more information.
