Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell expects Peter Siddle to play a significant part in his side’s fortunes in the final weeks of his stay at Trent Bridge.

Siddle will feature in three more LV= County Championship matches and Newell has no doubts about his commitment to the cause.

“The bowlers have loved having him around because he’s a great character in the dressing room and they’re able to observe how a world class performer prepares, trains and plays,”

“Peter’s up there on the dressing room balcony tonight and he’s cheering louder than some of the punters which shows how he’s settled in here.

“He still has a big part to play in the time he has left with us and his contribution could be telling come the end of the season. He’ll want to leave us in a strong position.”

Newell is resigned to losing Andy Carter for an extended period of time after the Lincolnshire-born seamer suffered a back problem in the warm-up at Leicestershire on Thursday.

New Zealand international James Franklin will arrive at Trent Bridge on Monday to bolster the ranks.

“Andy Carter is probably out for the entire season and we felt we looked a bit light particularly with Michael Lumb out and Siddle on his way relatively soon,” said Newell.

“We’ve had a lot of agents throwing names at us and we contacted Stephen Fleming to get a good character reference

“He arrives on Monday and he’ll go into the side to play Worcestershire on Friday.”
