On the second day Nottinghamshire continued from their overnight score of 407-7, Will Root on 166 and Luke Wood on 7. In the 9th over of the day Wood (28) was bowled by Mark Turner. The same man struck again in the 13th, Ben Kitt edging to keeper Tom Ball for 12 with Nottinghamshire 455-8. Last man Gemaal Hussain joined Root and the latter finally reached his 200 but was then caught in the 22nd over by Matt Higginbottom off Wes Durston’s bowling.

The innings ended with Nottinghamshire 489 all out. Root posted 200, while Turner returned the best bowling figures of 3-89 off 29 overs.

Derbyshire replied with openers Ben Slater and Tom Wood and they reached lunch unbeaten, Slater on 24, Wood on 15 and the score on 44 after 14 overs.

In the second session Derbyshire reached the 30th over without loss but then Slater was caught by keeper Matt Cross off Steven Mullaney’s bowling and next over Cross also snapped up Wood off Paul Franks. Mullaney struck again in the 34th over, Wes Durston caught Cross without scoring, Derbyshire 76-3, and in the 38th over he trapped Jonathan Clare lbw for 2.

At 82-4 Chesney Hughes was joined by Callum Broderick and they had reached the 49th over when Broderick (6) was adjudged lbw off Sam Wood, tea being taken with the score 113-5, Hughes 34 not out.

The final session of the day started with Greg Cork joining Hughes but in the 53rd over the latter was caught at slip by Mullaney off Sam Wood for 35 and next over Mullaney bowled Cork, the score then 122-7.

This brought Tom Knight and Tom Ball together and they moved the score on to 168 by the 67th over when Ben Kitt got Knight to edge to keeper Cross and three balls later Ben Cotton did exactly the same, Cross pouching his fifth catch of the innings, the score 168-9. In the 71st over Kitt struck again, Tom Ball caught by Sam Wood, Derbyshire all out for 189 with Mark Turner 17 not out.

Steven Mullaney finished with 4-37 off 12 overs and Ben Kitt 3-35 off 10.2. 

Nottinghamshire enforced the follow-on with a lead of 300 runs, Derbyshire once again opening with Ben Slater and Tom Wood, a minimum of seven overs left in the day. The visitors safely negotiated the nine overs to close of play finishing on 38-0, Slater 20* and Wood 18*.
