England will return to international action this weekend in the Super 10 stages of the ICC International Word Twenty 20. England are placed in Group B, along with New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and The Netherlands, who qualified in some style by beating Ireland, leapfrogging them and Zimbabwe.

Captain Stuart Broad, who returned from injury to bowl two overs in England’s warm up match against India, moved to confirm his fitness and enthusiasm ahead of his side’s match against New Zealand.

"I'm hopeful," he said.

"I'm going to bowl two spells in training but the knee has come up well from that game.

"It's given me a lot of confidence. It has been a long winter personally but those 10 days have freshened me up."

England will go into the tournament proper looking to improve on recent performances, having suffered defeats at the hands of the West Indies and India in their two warm up fixtures. Broad, however, was quick to point out the positives from the matches.

"Although we lost I thought it was one of the best death bowling performances for a long time,” he said.

“The way we played the first six overs with the bat was really good and the fielding with Ravi Bopara at point was a highlight.

"So there are little things we can carry into the New Zealand game."

England will face New Zealand under the floodlights in Chittagong on Saturday, familiar foes following their back-to-back series last year.

The explosiveness of Michael Lumb and Alex Hales was evident then, and the pair have shown signs of replicating that form, but Broad insisted that England’s middle order should also be backed.

"There's a lot of knowledge about their players and specific plans but it's also about adapting to the conditions," he said.

"Hitting power is very important but you've got to be clever, it's about skilful placement of the ball and Eoin Morgan is one of the best in the world at that.

"World Cups are made for big players and big players like to thrive on the big stage."
