Mullaney Identifies
Worcestershire Threat

Featured News | 22nd May 2014

Notts Outlaws all-rounder Steven Mullaney  has highlighted Moeen Ali and Saeed Ajmal as the biggest threats in the Worcestershire Rapids line-up ahead of Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast fixture at Trent Bridge (play starts 6pm).

The Outlaws made the perfect start with victory over Lancashire Lightning in their opening match on Friday and must sweep Worcestershire aside of they are to maintain their winning ways.

“We’ve made a fantastic start but that’s all it is and we’ve shifted our focus to Worcestershire who pose a very credible threat,” said Mullaney.

“Moeen Ali is in good form and has had some recognition with England and he’ll be a key player for us to get out early and nudge his overs around the park.

“Saeed Ajmal’s ability demands respect and we need to research his performances in this format and make our own plans to combat his ability.”

Mullaney took 3-46 in Friday’s win and despite his contribution, he has redoubled his efforts to bowl yorkers consistently.

“I was happy with my first three overs but couldn’t get my yorkers in in my final over and went for more than I would have liked,” he said.

“I try to bowl as straight as I can in T20 cricket and to stay in front of the batsman and my challenge is to nail my yorkers which I’ll be working.”

Mullaney watched Harry Gurney provide a good performance on debut for England as they slipped to a NatWest T20 International defeat at the Oval. Gurney may yet be included in England’s One-Day side after his return of 2-26.

“Harry was exceptional last night and if he was nervous then he certainly didn’t show it,” said Mullaney.

“He deserves the success he’s having and we’re delighted for him.”
