Outlaws spinner Sam Wood picked up his first T20 wicket of his career but unfortunately it wasn't enough to stop the Rapids winning by 24 runs.

In the second game of the revamped NatWest T20 Blast competition, Wood had his name in lights as he picked up his first T20 wicket.

Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to help the Outlaws to a second consecutive victory but he thinks the side isn’t far away to winning again.

“It was great to get my first wicket although it would have been good to get it in a winning cause,” Wood said.

“That’s what I see my role as in the side; offering a few overs of spin and trying to get a few runs with the bat if I get a chance.

“My first goal is to get picked every week and do as good a job as I can if I get called upon.”

The game saw the likes of Saeed Ajmal and Moeen Ali, the Worcestershire Rapids weren’t short of international talent and Wood was happy testing himself against the best.

“It is a brilliant opportunity for myself to pit my skills against the likes of Ajmal to see where I am with my game.

“Couple that with the fact that I am playing in the same team as the likes of Hales, Lumb and Patel then it is a great experience to have.”

The next game for the Outlaws is against Durham Jets at home next Friday and Wood is looking for a turn around in fortunes for the side.

“The batting probably let us down a little bit today as we lost wickets in clusters at times so we were playing catch up but we had to go for it.

“We need to rectify that next week and it would be good to be doing that in front of a big crowd once again.

“The crowd here has been like nothing I have ever played in front of before in the first two games this year and I hope we can get a similar crowd in next week.”
