Former Outlaw Adam Voges has been announced as the captain of Perth Scorchers in the KFC Big Bash T20 this winter.

The 34-year-old will take the reins from Simon Katich, as the Scorchers look to retain the title after their success this winter.

“It’s extremely exciting and it’s a real privilege to be named the Scorchers captain,” he said.

“It’s been a fantastic three years and to experience that success last year was enormous for everyone involved here in WA.

“There’s no doubt we can improve on what we did last year and that’s got to be our aim – to get better – not just as individuals, but collectively as a group.

“If we can do that, we can hopefully find ourselves near the top again.”

Voges’ tenure begins at the Champions League T20 over the coming weeks, and he remains a fond figure in Nottinghamshire, the popular Australian representing the county between 2008 and 2012, during which time he led the Outlaws in T20 cricket and scored 5,285 runs.

Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales and Michael Lumb will be facing Voges in the Big Bash, with the Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers respectively, the pair among a number of exciting names who will be taking part in the competition.

Joining Voges are Michael Klinger – who has captained Gloucestershire from the top of the order and highly-thought of  all-rounder AJ Tye – both new players to the Scorchers’ ranks.

“It’s an exciting squad and one that we’ve kept the majority of together from last year,” said Voges.

“The poachers have swooped a little bit and we’ve lost a couple of last year’s players, but that also presents opportunities.

“The additions of Michael Klinger and AJ Tye, in particular, will hold us in good stead.

“I’ve got no doubt we’ve got a squad that can continue to move forward and one that can hopefully challenge for the championship again.”
