Nottinghamshire quick Andy Carter has collected eight wickets in his first two LV= County Championship fixtures of his month-long loan with Glamorgan.

Carter, in his first true competitive action after missing much of 2014 with injury, is relishing his return to first class cricket.

“It’s good to be playing first team cricket again,” he said.

“Glamorgan are a good bunch of lads, have been very welcoming to me and I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.”

Carter claimed four wickets against hotly-tipped Surrey, on a batsman-friendly track and with the visitors to the Swalec boasting Kumar Sangakkara and Kevin Pietersen, the difference in class between the two divisions has narrowed substantially.

“Sangakkara is the best batsman in the world, as far as I’m concerned,” he said.

“The standard has been very high, it’s been a tough two weeks on two good, flat wickets that have helped the batsmen.

“I managed to get his edge twice, but they were chances which went for runs.

“We had to get pretty clever with him. He’s that good a player – capable of hitting good balls for four – we had to try and bowl outside off, keep him hungry and tempt him into drives.”

While the wickets of Sangakkara and Pietersen eluded Carter, he did pick up the scalp of Jason Roy, the week after taking four against Leicestershire at Grace Road. As well as testing himself against top quality opposition, Carter has also had the chance to take on new aspects from his teammates at the Swalec.

“Jacques Rudolph, is a really experienced, really calm chap,” he said.

“He doesn’t get flustered, and I’m going to go about bringing that into my game and take it up another notch.”
