Notts Outlaws play their second Royal London One Day Cup match in as many days when they face Glamorgan as part of Welbeck Weekender.

The sides meet in the group stages of the 50-over per side competition for the second season running.

Also in the same group are Warwickshire Bears, Sussex Sharks, Essex Eagles, Lancashire Lightning, Middlesex, Kent Spitfires and Hampshire, with the top four progressing through to the quarter finals.

Head To Head

Notts and Glamorgan have met 49 times in one-day competition, with the Outlaws slightly ahead, with 24 wins and 21 losses.

Three matches have been abandoned without a ball being bowled and there has also been one No Result.

In Wales there have been 23 previous meetings, spread over five different venues, Cardiff, Swansea, Colwyn Bay, Ebbw Vale and Llanelli.

Trent Bridge has staged the fixture on 25 occasions with Notts winning 11 times, Glamorgan 12 and two matches falling victim to the weather.

The other meeting occurred at Lord’s in the final of the 2013 Yorkshire Bank 40 competition, with the Outlaws triumphing by 87 runs.

Last Time

The two sides were drawn together in the qualifying groups of last season’s competition and met at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff, on July 30 2014.

The Outlaws looked to be out of contention as they stuttered their way through an unconvincing reply but turned the tables to pull off an unexpected three-wicket victory with nine balls to spare.

Steven Mullaney and Ajmal Shahzad took the plaudits, sharing an unbroken stand of 93 in just 12.5 overs to rescue their team-mates, who had plunged to 137 for seven in pursuit of 228.

Mullaney finished with 63 not out from 46 balls and Shahzad was unbeaten with 33 from 39.

Alex Hales, James Taylor and Samit Patel were all dismissed for 0 by Michael Hogan as Notts slumped to 11 for three.

Michael Lumb made 26, James Franklin added 11 and Chris Read scored 21 but it was Riki Wessels who gave his side a chance, scoring a high-quality 65 before being run out in slightly controversial circumstances after colliding with Dean Cosker, the bowler.

Mullaney’s fifty was only his third in one-day cricket and when he heaved Hogan for the winning six it took him to his highest score in the format.

History

Nottinghamshire defeated Glamorgan in a Refuge Assurance League match at Ebbw Vale in 1987 but there was something for the home fans to cheer about as Geoff Holmes took a hat-trick by dismissing Paul Johnson, David Fraser-Darling and Bruce French.

Bowling against Glamorgan in an AXA Equity and Law League match at Trent Bridge in 1994, Nottinghamshire’s Kevin Evans claimed the only List A hat-trick of his career, dismissing Roland Lefebvre, Colin Metson and Steve Watkin in successive deliveries. All were clean bowled, as were Tony Cottey and Robert Croft earlier in the innings, Evans collecting match-winning figures of five for 29.

In 2000 Nottinghamshire Outlaws won promotion from the second division of the Norwich Union League after a tense three-run victory over Glamorgan Dragons at Trent Bridge. The home side made 229 for nine, with half-centuries from Paul Johnson and Usman Afzaal, before restricting their opponents to 226 for nine.

In September 2013 the two counties met at Lord’s in the final of the Yorkshire Bank 40 competition. Notts posted 244 for eight, with captain Chris Read making 53, having shared in a stand of 99 with David Hussey, who added 42.

At 108 for two Glamorgan sensed victory but a superb spell of left-arm spin bowling from Samit Patel titled the contest towards the Outlaws. Patel claimed the wickets of Chris Cooke, Jim Allenby and Murray Goodwin to seal man of the match-winning figures of three for 21.

Ajmal Shahzad (three for 33) also made serious inroads, leaving Stuart Broad to take the final three wickets (three for 29) to give Notts victory by 87 runs as Glamorgan folded for 157 in 33 overs.

Played For Them Both

Darren Sammy played for Notts Outlaws in four matches in the group stages of this season’s NatWest T20 Blast competition. The former West Indies’ captain scored 82 runs, with a best of 36 not out against Worcestershire Rapids at New Road. He also picked up three wickets.

The 31-year old St Lucian made six appearances for Glamorgan in the same competition in 2014, scoring 58 runs and taking four wickets.

Other players to have represented Notts and Glamorgan include Alex Wharf, Paul Todd and Andy Carter, who spent the early weeks of this season on loan with the Welsh county.
