Adam Tillcock’s fine all round performance of 5-55 with the ball and 62 with the bat was not enough to help Nottinghamshire Academy to a positive result, his side settling for a losing draw against league leaders Caythorpe.

Visitors Caythorpe won the toss and chose to bat first, openers Martyn Dobson and James Oldham making a solid start.

They had added 65 within the first 13 overs before Dobson fell for 37 to a great catch on the long-leg boundary by Simon Webster off Dan Freeman’s bowling.

In the 17th over Freeman struck again, bowling Oldham for 20, Matt Dowman joining Allcoat but the latter was trapped LBW by Tillcock in the 20th, out for 20 and the score 90-3.

Josh Mierkalns and Dowman added 50 in the next ten overs before Tillcock bowled the latter for 22, bringing Andrew Staszkiewicz to the middle with the score on 142-4.

Mierkalns (36) and Staszkiewicz (42) edged the score up to 214-6 but were both removed by Simone Webster (2-67).

Ben Powell joined Caleb Mierkalns but was bowled by Tillcock for seven before Jim Hemmings was out first ball, giving Tillcock his fourth wicket.

James Hindson didn’t fair much better, out first ball of the 45th over when he was caught by Tom Moores off Freeman.

Last man Hasnain Nasir joined Caleb Mierkalns but the latter edged to Moores off Tillcock in the 46th, out for 24, Caythorpe all out for 237 with Tillcock finishing with 5-55 off 12.2 overs.

The Academy were left requiring 238 to win off 54, but their reply stuttered early on, falling to 18-4 within five overs.

Openers Dal and Moores were removed by Hemmings before Powell then got two wickets in two balls, bowling Joe New and Freeman.

The Academy needed a partnership, Simon Webster joining Tillcock, but in the 10th over Webster was Hemmings’ third wicket, bowled for three.

Rain caused a break in play in the 19th over (59-5) and the match became a timed game, play resuming after 35 minutes.

The score had reached 79 by the 24th over when Marshall was LBW to Hemmings (4-44) for 16, Paul Franks joining Tillcock.

The hundred was reached in the 30th over and Tillcock reached his fifty in the 35th but the score had reached 135 by the 41st when he fell, caught at long-off for 62.

Next over Kitt drove the ball straight back to the bowler, Hindson, who held the catch and left the Academy struggling on 139-8 with a number of overs still to bat out.

However, Elliott Bowles joined Franks, the pair taking the score to 162 by the last over before the latter was LBW to Powell for 35.

Last man Reicko Parker-Cole joined Bowles with the pair taking the final score 164-9, Bowles not out two and Parker-Coles naught not out, giving Caythorpe a winning draw for Caythorpe and seven points for the Academy.
