Attenborough were the visitors to the Notts Sports Club this weekend and went away with a three-wicket victory, a Matt Cross century guiding them home with just under five overs remaining.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bowl first, reaping early rewards as Ben Bhabra bowled Joe New for one in the third over.

Opening partner Anuj Dal also fell early on, bowled by Martin Rayner, as the Academy were reduced to 30-2.

Connor Marshall and Adam Tillcock rebuilt slowly and pushed the score to 63-2 by the 18th over before both falling in quick succession.

Marshall was bowled by Andy Simkiss for 14 and Tillcock caught by Alec McKinlay off Rayner for 21, the score falling to 65-4.

Simon Webster was joined by Dan Freeman, the pair moving the score to 125 before the latter edged through to Cross off Bhabra for 42.

Paul Franks fell for nine shortly after but Webster continued to push the Academy to a defendable total.

He got able support from Ben Kitt, the pair ensuring that no further wickets fell in the rest of the innings.

Webster finished with 58* and Kitt 45* as they set 226-6, Bhabra the pick of the Attenborough bowlers, taking 3-45 off 14 overs.

The hosts started well in their pursuit of victory, Gurpej Landa falling for six and McKinlay making 17, both openers gone with 28 on the board.

It was 39-3 soon after, a fantastic catch by Dan Freeman at second slip accounting for Craig Heiden and Attenborough were in further trouble when Freeman removed Ben Shaw for just five.

However, that brought Cross to the crease who steadied the ship and guided his side through some tough times to come out victorious.

Alongside Bhabra he stemmed the flow of wickets, the pair putting on 66 for the fifth wicket.

Bharba was caught behind for 25 and either side of the 40 over mark the visitors lost a further two quick wickets, the seventh falling with the score on 188.

That was the last of the joy for the Academy bowlers though, Cross’ century guiding the visitors to a three-wicket win.

He ended on 122 as the victory mark was reached with 27 balls remaining, Ben Kitt the pick of the bowlers with 3-55.
