Outlaws seamer Jake Ball has backed the side to kick on from their eight-wicket victory over reigning champions Birmingham Bears in the opening round of the NatWest T20 Blast.

And with standout performers such as Alex Hales and Luke Fletcher coming to the fore, Ball believes there is plenty more to come following the comprehensive win.

“That was a massive win for us against the champions and it is always nice to get off to a good start in any competition,” he said.

“I think as first games go you couldn’t have got much better as we put in almost the complete performance in front of a packed Trent Bridge.

“Getting the win against the reigning champions sets down a good marker and there wouldn’t have been many other sides that would have won so convincingly.”

Yorkshire Vikings are the next visitors to Trent Bridge and the 24-year-old is aiming to make it two from two in the shortest format.

“Yorkshire will be as hard to beat as any team but it will all be about getting the right plans to a batsman and executing them on the night,” he said.

“I am enjoying having an extended run in the team having only been playing regularly in the white ball cricket over the previous years.

“I was unfortunate to get an injury when I did but that gave me chance to hone my t20 skills and I think that could be seen tonight.

“Lots of players in the side today didn’t get a chance to show themselves and the likes of Greg Smith will be itching to show what they can do.

“There is more to come from us.”
