All-rounder Samit Patel is craving the 'buzz' of NatWest T20 Blast cricket at Trent Bridge, as the Outlaws prepare to welcome reigning champions the Birmingham Bears on Friday.

Patel's fluent batting and miserly left-arm spin have made him an integral short format performer for the Outlaws, with the 30-year-old racking up 142 Twenty20 appearances since the competition's inception in 2003.

And the 18-time England Twenty20 international wants Notts to make Trent Bridge a fortress during the 2015 competition, starting against the Bears on Friday with a 6.30pm start.

“You play cricket for the atmospheres and that's what we get at Trent Bridge week in week out,” Patel said.

“The buzz of playing in front of the big crowds we get here on Fridays is brilliant and the lads love to perform in front of them.

“Playing Birmingham will be a great way to start the tournament as they are the reigning champions and there will be some top quality cricket played.

“We miss Brendon McCullum coming over but the Bears will bring a quality side who will be out to pick up their first win.”

Notts have enjoyed a run to the knockout stages of the domestic Twenty20 competition in each of the last four seasons, on each occasion losing at the quarter-final stage.

But Patel has great respect for his side's northern section opposition and insists the Outlaws are taking nothing for granted.

“We have had a good run in the group stages in recent years but anything can happen before the knockout stage in t20 cricket,” Patel said.

“We will have to take one game at a time and see where we are at but we are in this competition, like any other, to win it.

“Our squad is one of the most versatile out there and we have the talent in there to deal with any injuries and international call-ups.

“If you look down our batting line-up, we have match winners throughout and if we play the cricket we can, I don’t see why we can’t go all the way.”
