After restricting reigning NatWest T20 Blast champions Birmingham Bears to just 141-7 last week, Outlaws bowling coach Andy Pick has backed his bowlers to follow that up against Yorkshire Vikings tomorrow.

Both sides will be aiming to make it two from two when they meet at Trent Bridge after Yorkshire comprehensively beat Derbyshire in the first round.

And Pick believes a lot will come down to the bowlers when the Outlaws host the Vikings in front of another buoyant crowd.

“Overall we need to keep doing what we are doing when it comes to the t20 as last week was as close to a perfect performance as we will probably get,” Pick said.

“The bowling was magnificent and then Alex came in and blew them away with the bat and if we could play like that every week we wouldn’t be far off come the end of the season.

“We need to build on that against Yorkshire this week by bowling to the plans we have in place against the batsmen and keeping them under pressure.”

With some of the Outlaws bowlers playing both formats, the practice in between LV= County Championship and Blast matches becomes all the more important.

However, Pick believes that some similar aspects emerge when bowling at the start of the innings.

“Up front the bowling isn’t much different as you are aiming to hit your lengths and keep the scoring tight,” he said.

“Where the skills come in to it is with the different variations bowlers can use at the end of the innings to keep the batsmen guessing.

“However, one of the most important deliveries is the yorker. The only ball if delivered perfectly that can’t go out the ground is the yorker.

“Having someone like Luke who can hit it time and time again reduces the scoring shots that a batsman has in an over.

“Batsmen are trying to hit you out the ground every ball if they can and it is up to us to come up with the plans to stop them doing that.”
