Nottinghamshire’s Second XI shared the spoils in their two t20 matches against Yorkshire at Harrogate Cricket Club, losing the first before producing a better performance in the second game to win by six wickets.

In the first game Nottinghamshire won the toss and decided to put Yorkshire in. The visitors made a good start when, off the bowling of Brett Hutton, Eliot Callis (10) edged the ball to first slip leaving the score at 10-1 in the third over.

Yorkshire recovered through Ryan Gibson and Dan Hodgson taking the score to 51 before Hodgson (9) was trapped LBW off the bowling of Hutton.

Will Rhodes went without troubling the scorer in the 7th over leaving the score at 52-3.  Yorkshire again steadied after the cluster of wickets and Gibson completed his 50 and alongside Jonathan Tattersall they carried Yorkshire over the hundred mark in the 13th over.

However Tattersall (25) didn’t last too much longer and was out LBW to Will Gidman leaving the score at 111-4. Yorkshire then lost Matt Waite and Jordan Thompson in quick succession leaving the score at 119-6 in the 16th over.

After a long stint at the crease Gibson was finally dismissed for 59 in the 18th over with the score on 132-7. Karl Carver (13) came to the crease and landed a few meaty blows before he was caught off the bowling of Tillcock, as Yorkshire finished on 154-8 with the he pick of the bowlers Brett Hutton who finished with 3-21.

The Nottinghamshire reply was delayed by rain, and once play could begin they were given a revised target of 131 off 16 overs. Will Root and Anuj Dal opened the batting for Notts, however Dal could only score four before he edged behind off the bowling Moin Ashraf with the score on 15-1.

Sam Wood came to the crease, but he too was dismissed shortly after leaving the score at 22-2. Gidman joined Root and steadied the ship, carrying the score to 44 before Root (27) could only edge a ball from Gibson to Hodgson.

Nottinghamshire were now behind the required run rate and their cause wasn’t helped when Gidman (19) was bowled in the 11th over by Patterson leaving the score on 70-4. Tillcock and Hutton mounted a late charge for Notts, but they were always behind the rate.

After 16 overs the final score was 122-4, Hutton not out 28 and Tillcock not out 32, a win for Yorkshire by eight runs through he Duckworth Lewis Method.

In the second match of the day Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to field first and Yorkshire opened the batting with Andrew Gale and Ryan Gibson. Again Nottinghamshire took an early wicket as this time Gale (6) was bowled by Brett Hutton (12-1).

Gibson was joined at the crease by Dan Hodgson and the pair carried the score to 49 before Gibson (20) was caught off the bowling of Tillcock.

Rhodes joined Hodgson and the score had moved on to 80 by the 12th over when Hodgson (44) was trapped LBW by Tillcock.

Jonathan Tattersall came in, but he played all round a ball from Connor Marshall in the 13th over and was stumped by Tom Moores (90-4), Matt Waite joining Rhodes.

Yorkshire took their score over the hundred mark in the 15th over and Rhodes made his half century shortly later in 18th (134-4). The pair shared an unbeaten partnership of 73, posting a final score of 163-4, Rhodes not out 61 and Waite 23 not out.

Nottinghamshire again opened with Will Root and Anuj Dal. This time it was Root (1) who would be the one of the two who was dismissed early, caught by Thompson off James Wainman in the 1st over (2-1).

Sam Wood joined Dal at the crease and the pair shared a 39-run partnership before Dal (30) was bowled by Waite (41-2). Gidman came to the crease and he and Wood developed a good partnership carrying the score over the hundred mark (101-2) in the 12th over.

Wood (44) was bowled shortly after by Gibson (117-3) bringing Brett Hutton to the middle. Hutton (17) lasted three overs before he was caught off the bowling off Matthew Fisher (146-4).
