James Taylor will captain Nottinghamshire in next week's LV= County Championship game against Sussex after Chris Read was ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Read, 36, who has scored 277 runs in five four-day matches so far this season averaging 46, ends an unbroken run of 33 championship appearances dating back almost two years.

"It's disappointing to lose our captain, especially when he's been in good form, but his positions as keeper and captain can be covered with the players in our squad," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

"Riki Wessels and Brendan Taylor are both more than capable with the gloves and they are far from reluctant wicketkeepers.

"We've got Alex Hales coming back into that side as well, so we're going into the game with a strong top seven and one of two good options as a specialist wicketkeeper."

James Taylor captains Nottinghamshire's limited-overs team, as well as recently skippering England against Ireland in a recent one day international, and Newell says it's an opportunity for the 25-year-old to apply his leadership skills to the four day arena.

"James is a tactically sound captain and he has responded to the extra responsibility of leading our one-day side with a better level of performance, which is always a good sign," said Newell.

"This is a good chance for him to lead the side in four-day cricket, where there will be a different set of challenges, and I'm sure he'll do a good job."
