England and Nottinghamshire fast bowler Stuart Broad has been made available for selection for Notts Outlaws' Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final against Surrey on Monday.

The 29-year-old paceman - who took 21 wickets at an average of 21 in the Investec Ashes, including first innings figures of 8 for 15 in the Fourth Test at Trent Bridge – is set for his third domestic appearance of the season at the Kia Oval.

Broad claimed 7 for 84 against Yorkshire in the LV= County Championship at Headingley in June, and has recent history in the domestic List A competition having played a key role with the ball as Notts Outlaws secured the Yorkshire Bank Trophy with victory over Glamorgan at Lord’s in 2013.

He is set to strengthen an Outlaws line-up likely to be missing both Alex Hales and James Taylor, who were named in the England squad for the upcoming Royal London One-Day International series between England and Australia.

Despite not having featured with the white ball for England since the World Cup, Broad retains ambitions to play one-day cricket for his country.

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell believes the semi-final is the perfect opportunity for the 175-time limited-overs international to showcase his skills with the white ball.

“We need to field as strong a side as possible,” he said.

“With that in mind, we’re always happy to welcome Stuart back into the squad and it’s a boost for us ahead of the semi-final.

“I’ve said previously that I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t play ODI cricket again.

“He’s focused on Tests from an international cricket perspective at the present time, but nobody is writing him off and Monday is a significant opportunity for him to bowl well in an important one-day game.”

With the third Royal London One-Day International to be played at Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday, Newell doesn’t expect Taylor or Hales to be available.

Surrey are equally likely to be without their England opening batsman Jason Roy.

Michael Lumb could also return to bolster the Outlaws’ batting following a thumb injury. He is appearing in Nottinghamshire’s Second XI three-day friendly against Gloucestershire this week.

“If Michael Lumb gets through the second team game this week, he’s ideally placed to come into the side at the top of the order," added Newell.

“It might mean a slightly different role for one-or-two players who have been coming in further down the order.

“We’ve just got to get on with it and do everything we can to win the match.”
