Stuart Broad has capped off a memorable summer, in which he took 8-15 at Trent Bridge to guide England to Ashes victory, by being crowned Investec Test Player of the Summer at the PCA Awards.

Broad ended as the leading wicket taker in England’s victorious campaign, taking 21 wickets at just over 20, the spell on the first morning of the fourth Test all but regaining the Ashes for the hosts.

The 29-year-old fast bowler will look to build on his summer form when he travels to the UAE with Notts counterparts James Taylor, Alex Hales and Samit Patel.

Hales, four years on from winning John Arlott Cup for the PCA Young Player of the Year award, joined Broad in the PCA Team of the Year.

Hales kick started England’s push for victory at Trent Bridge against New Zealand in June, scoring 67 from just 38 deliveries as the hosts chased down 350 to level the series at 2-2.

He was also one of the leading run-scorers for Nottinghamshire in the LV= County Championship, making 892 runs at an average of just under 50, earning him his first Test call-up.

Elsewhere on the night, former Nottinghamshire batsman Usman Afzaal won the England Masters MVP award.
