Mick Newell has challenged his players to continue their sensational run in the LV= County Championship against a Warwickshire side that will be gunning for revenge.

In the fixture at Trent Bridge just a couple of weeks ago, Nottinghamshire ran out victors by an innings and 123 runs courtesy of centuries from Alex Hales and Steven Mullaney.

On the back of the fourth straight victory in the LVCC against Durham, Director of Cricket Newell has urged his players to take that confidence to Edgbaston.

“Warwickshire will be gunning for us as they came here and were turned over and will be hurting from that,” he said.

“I am sure they will want to play much better than that but at the moment the boys are confident so we should enjoy the trip.

“We turned the Durham game around with some high quality batting and bowling that got us out of trouble after our disappointing first session.

“Samit and Riki’s partnership was crucial on the third morning and then the over that Harry bowled to get Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick was a crucial point in the match.”

Nottinghamshire will welcome Alex Hales and James Taylor back from international duty and Newell has challenged his side to keep the pressure up on Middlesex in second.

“James has been outstanding in the ODI series and whilst Alex has had a disappointing one he will be eager to put that right,” Newell said.

“Warwickshire is his team, he has a good record against them and we are looking forward to having them both back.

“We are still targeting second and that is very achievable.

“What we have to do is win our last two matches and then we will be in with a very good chance.”
