Nottinghamshire opener Jake Libby is to join Northamptonshire on a month’s loan ahead of the opening round of Specsavers County Championship matches starting on Sunday.

Northants are due to play four matches during the duration of the loan, starting against Sussex on Sunday and continuing with fixtures against Essex, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

Libby scored a century on his first class debut against Sussex in September 2014 but missed much of the following season through injury.

He scored heavily in Second XI and Academy cricket during the back end of the 2015 campaign,  played club cricket in Australia during the winter and posted a century against Hampshire during the pre-season tour in Barbados.

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell says a loan move provides Libby with the opportunity state a case for future selection.

“We have had some tough calls to make between him and the other players in the team and he is not in the starting side at the moment,” said Newell.

“It will benefit him hugely playing first team cricket rather than second team and he is enthusiastic about that.

“He is very close to playing, it has been a good battle between him and the other batsmen over the course of pre-season, making selection more difficult.

“Northants are a club looking for an opening batsman and Jake is ready to play. The runs he scores with them could help him push back in to the team back at Notts.”

The 2015 season saw dramatic last-gasp four day victories, thrilling limited-overs contests and an historic Investec Ashes Test, all in the unique surroundings of Trent Bridge.

This season, we’d wager, will be no less enthralling and frankly we’d hate for you to miss out.
