The Nottinghamshire trio of Jake Ball, Stuart Broad and Alex Hales have retained their places in the England squad to face Pakistan at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday.

Ball, who made his Test debut in the First Investec Test at Lord’s taking 1-88 from 35 overs, retains his place in the party despite the returns of James Anderson and Ben Stokes.

Broad, whose match figures of 6-109 at the home of cricket took him to 350 scalps in the five day arena, is set for the 96th appearance of his Test career.

Hales, who scored six and 16 in the First Test after averaging 58 during the three match series against Sri Lanka, is likely to continue his opening partnership with Alastair Cook.
