Paul Franks has been granted permission by Nottinghamshire to take on a six-week temporary role as Interim Head Coach of the United Arab Emirates.

Starting on Friday 8 July, the 37-year-old’s stint at the helm will encompass training camps in the UAE and in Southampton, followed by three matches in eight days against Scotland in Aberdeen.

The Emirates’ search for a permanent Head Coach is on-going following the resignation of Aaqib Javed in April.

Franks, with two previous spells on the nation’s coaching staff under his belt, has been asked to fulfil the role on a temporary basis and will do so with the blessing of his county.

“It’s a great opportunity for Paul to go away and experience something new as a coach,” said Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He is ambitious, rightly so, and when opportunities arise for our coaches to further their experiences, we’re more than happy for them to take them.”

Franks, who retired from the first class game as a player at the conclusion of the 2015 season, believes he will return to the Nottinghamshire fold a better coach for the experience.

“I’ve been lucky enough to work with the UAE on a consultancy basis during the Cricket World Cup and the Asia Cup competitions, as well as training camps,” added Franks.

“Now I’m thoroughly looking forward to the challenge of working as a Head Coach.

“I’m very ambitious, I always have been. That started during my playing career and has now transferred to my coaching.

“I’m very grateful to everybody at Trent Bridge for supporting me in that, and I’m looking forward to learning plenty over the course of the six weeks.”
