Kent crumbled under the bowling onslaught of Luke Wood, who took four wickets in four overs as Nottinghamshire restricted the home side to 186-7 on day two of the Second XI fixture at Canterbury.

After Notts declared on their overnight score of 367-8, Akhil Patel and Adam Ball opened the innings for Kent.

A steady start by the opening pair was brought to a halt when Dominic Brown took wickets in back to back overs. Patel was caught for 22, before Brown trapped Zac Crowley lbw for 0, the Kent number three making his way back to the pavilion with Kent on 46-2.

Gerasimos Fatouros joined Ball in the middle and together the duo put on a 29-run partnership before Matt Carter dismissed Fatouros for 10.

Kent found themselves on 75-3, when Adam Tillcock made his way the crease and, together with Ball, the former Notts batsman provided Kent with some respite.

The opener headed into the break on 63 not out but, after the break, the 56-run partnership came to end as Wood embarked on his magic spell.

In successive overs, the fast bowler dismissed Ball (70), Oliver Robinson (5), Tillock (26) -  all three caught by the wicketkeeper Tom Keast. Wood then collected his fourth scalp of the innings when he trapped Charlie Hartley lbw for 5.

Overall, Wood had taken 4-54 from 14 overs before persistent heavy rain brought an early close to proceedings.
