Heavy rain in Birmingham prevented any play being possible on the scheduled fourth day of Nottinghamshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Warwickshire.

After an early lunch had been taken at midday, umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Billy Taylor assessed that the conditions wouldn’t have sufficient time to improve, even if the rain stopped in early afternoon.

The draw means that Notts take a total of eight points from the contest, whilst the home county secured eleven points.

Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire’s director of cricket, gave this assessment as another day of championship action was washed away.

“We’ve got to be realistic to say we were on the wrong end of the game for what was played, so from our perspective eight points for a draw is welcome at the moment because we weren’t winning the match at any stage.

“We would like to think we’d have turned it round but we won’t know.”

Nottinghamshire took eight Specsavers County Championship points from the fixture, with Lancashire their next opposition in the competition at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
