Trent Bridge is gearing itself up for one of the biggest dates in the calendar, the Outlaws’ home NatWest T20 Blast fixture against local rivals Derbyshire Falcons.

The sides meet on Friday evening, 10 June 2016, with a 7.15pm start.

Notts will be looking to build on their thrilling victory over Lancashire last Saturday and will be boosted by the appearance of their new star signing Andre Russell.

The West Indies all-rounder will be playing four Blast matches for the Outlaws, but this will be the only one on home soil.

Derbyshire have made a fine start to their own Blast campaign and will arrive in Nottingham full of confidence after winning two of their first three matches.

Head To Head

The T20 clashes between Notts Outlaws and Derbyshire Falcons have traditionally been some of the most competitive matches in domestic cricket.

This week’s clash will be the 25th time they have come together in the shortest format, with Notts holding a winning advantage of 15 matches to seven.

Two other matches, both of the scheduled fixtures in 2012, fell victim to the weather, with not a ball bowled in either.

At Trent Bridge the margin is seven wins to four in favour of the Outlaws but the visitors have triumphed only once here, in a rain-shortened game in 2013, in any of the last six completed meetings.

Notts have won 11 of the last 13 completed meetings.

Last Time

Last year’s match at Trent Bridge had just about everything and came down to a thrilling finish in front of a crowd of 13,582, a record attendance for a domestic T20 match on the ground.

Alex Hales and Samit Patel struck 54 and 52 respectively, as Notts Outlaws posted a score of 172 for six after winning the toss, with Derbyshire seamer Shiv Thakor returning figures of three for 25.

Hamish Rutherford responded with 62 for the Falcons, before falling to the bowling of man-of-the-match Jake Ball.

Rutherford reached a 40-ball fifty and added 57 with Wayne Madsen before Ball pivotally uprooted the New Zealander’s middle stump halfway through the 16th over.

Alex Hughes then lost his leg stump to Ball, who finished with three for 36, and Derbyshire needed 11 from the final over – a task that proved just too steep for the visitors.

Five were needed from the last delivery but Madsen – who finished 51 not out – could only manage two from a well-directed Harry Gurney yorker – as his side closed on 170 for four, leaving Notts victorious by two runs.

History

In the 2010 match at Trent Bridge Derbyshire’s Wes Durston scored 111 out of his side’s total of 192 for six. The Outlaws chased down their target with three overs to spare, to record a five-wicket victory but Durston’s innings remains the highest individual score posted against Notts in T20 cricket.

Ahead of the Trent Bridge match in 2014 the home side were given an inspiring pre-match team talk by the-then Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce. The former Reds full back highlighted the importance of winning local derbies to his audience and his words produced the desired effects as the Outlaws pulled off a comfortable 27-run victory.

Elder brother of Nottinghamshire off-spinner Matthew Carter, Andy played in 21 first class matches for Notts, taking 60 wickets with a best of five for 55.

He also made 19 List A and 21 T20 appearances for the Outlaws between 2009 and 2015.

Earlier this season current Notts favourite, Luke Fletcher, spent a month on loan at the County Ground and made four first class appearances for Derbyshire, picking up four wickets in the process.

Amongst other players to have appeared for both counties are: Hashim Amla, Brian Bolus, Wayne Dessaur, Matt Dowman, Scott Elstone, Mark Footitt, AJ Harris, Mike Hendrick, Richard Hodgkinson, John Morris, Akhil Patel, Harold Rhodes, Mark Saxelby and Pat Vaulkhard.
