After their record-laden victory over Northants Steelbacks on Monday, Notts Outlaws will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Royal London One-Day Cup when they host Warwickshire at Trent Bridge on Wednesday 8th June (2pm start).

With the qualifying competition comprising of just eight matches, victories are vital to ensure a place in the top four of the group and a spot in the quarter finals.

Warwickshire will be keen to record their first success, having lost their opening match in the competition on Sunday, going down to Lancashire by 42 runs, at Old Trafford, after the home side had scored 296 for eight.

The Bears will arrive at Trent Bridge looking to complete a hat-trick of wins over Notts this season, having already picked up Trent Bridge wins in the county championship and the T20 Blast.

Head To Head

Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire have met on 58 previous occasions in one-day competition, with the fixtures taking place in a variety of competitions scheduled from anything between 40 and 60 overs per side.

The head-to-head balance is tipped slightly in Notts favour, with 30 victories to the Bears’ 23. Five matches have remained incomplete, either washed-out totally or abandoned after starting.

At Trent Bridge there have been 26 meetings, dating back to their first John Player League clash in 1970.

Notts have been successful on 14 occasions, including the two most recent meetings in Nottingham, in 2010 and 2013.

Warwickshire’s last success on the ground, in 2008, was their 10th win in Nottingham and the matches in 1983 and 2007 were washed out.

Last year the contest was played at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex at Nettleworth, home of Welbeck Colliery CC. Notts won by 9 wickets with Alex Hales making 103 and Riki Wessels finishing on 87 not out.

Last Time

The last time the two sides met at Trent Bridge in one-day cricket they produced the most thrilling of climaxes.

In a dramatic finale Notts Outlaws beat Warwickshire by one wicket in Group B of the Royal London One Day Cup in August 2014. The outcome meant that both sides qualified for the quarter finals, although the win meant that Notts earned home advantage in the next round.

Jonathan Trott scored 108 and added 176 for the third wicket with Tim Ambrose, who made 98, as the Bears scored 302 for seven.

Luke Fletcher took career best one-day figures of four for 44 for the home side.

The Notts innings mirrored that of their guests, with a centurion of their own sharing in a sizeable third wicket stand.

Alex Hales scored 104 from 90 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes and added 138 with James Taylor, who contributed 62.

The contest swung this way and that before coming right down to the final delivery of the evening. With the scores tied, Fletcher followed up his terrific performance with the ball by driving Oliver Hannon-Dalby for the winning boundary, to the delight of the majority of the 4,000 crowd.

History

In a 1982 Benson and Hedges Cup match at Trent Bridge Basharat Hassan was unbeaten on 99 not out at the end of the Nottinghamshire innings, against Warwickshire.

It was one of only two instances of a Notts batsman making that score in List A cricket, Paul Johnson v Durham in 1996 being the other.

Played For Them Both

Notts announced this week that Imran Tahir will be returning to Trent Bridge for the second half of the summer. The South African leg spinner spent a brief portion of last season with the county, playing in one county championship game and three one-day matches.

Tahir played for Warwickshire in 2010, taking 56 wickets in 16 first class games, with a best of eight for 114.

He also played in 17 T20 and 13 List A fixtures for the Bears, including a match-winning return of five for 40 in the Lord’s one-day final win over Somerset.

Others to have appeared for both counties include; Vasbery Drakes, Dilip Doshi, Eddie Hemmings, Deryck Murray, Anurag Singh, Daniel Vettori and Mark Wagh.
